During the sale hysteria, I found a pair of gorgeous red Cigarette trousers at Zara and soon after it became one of my favourite items to wear. I realised that I am addicted to these gorgeous trousers and automatically grabbing them every morning when I am planning what to wear to work without thinking about it. Besides me loving my new sale bargain, I also received lots of compliments, all from strangers to acquaintances and friends. Shortly after, I decided to make a “1 item, 3 looks” blog post where I show how to wear one item in 3 different ways for various occasions; the first one is a casual day-to- day look, the second look is a day- to- evening look and the last outfit is the evening look.
We all have been there where we purchase new items, especially statements or bold coloured pieces, but get confused when we get home and don´t really know how to style them in our everyday life. Furthermore, we don´t really know how to combine and match these new purchases with our existing wardrobe. I will show how to pull off a statement piece and implement it into your day- to- day life. To make it a bit more relatable, I have chosen items I already have in my wardrobe. Few of these items are from Zara (because Zara never disappoints), while others are either vintage or basics we all have in our wardrobe.
Please note that sometimes a photo shoot sessions just don’t go as planned – it started to pour down with rain on my way to the location when shooting this post, which unfortunately made my hair frizzy (yeay). To escape the rain, we went to the V&A to make the most of the day, so many of these pictures are taken with my phone so the quality isn’t that great. However, I was so excited to be able to take pictures at the breathtaking V&A (without being yelled at) so I really wanted to share these pictures.
Trousers: Zara (Bought on sale but find similar here and here) | White T-shirt: Vero Moda | Scarf: Zara (find similar here) | Sandals: Clarks (sold out- find similar here)
The inspiration behind this casual look is Parisian style meets West London pretty but cool look. I choose a basic white T-shirt from Vero Moda, a purchase I found during my visit to Norway to match the stunning red Cigarette trousers. To give it a bit more “my outfit is pretty but cool” touch, I wore a black pair of buckle sandals and accessorised it with a colourful silk scarf.
It is rather important for the modern woman to know how to transfer a day look to an evening with some magic. We all have been there where we simply do not have the time to change into another outfit for our evening plans so knowing a few tricks will definitely be helpful (and hassle free). One important recommendation is to always have a pair of beautiful high heels at your office, it is never wrong to be too prepared.
The shirt I picked for this look was Zara´s most popular shirt from their last year summer collection – no wonder as it was on point in trend. As the shirt is oversized, I simply made a knot with the ends of the shirt to make it a bit more interesting. During the day look, you can simply wear a pair of low heels and to make it a bit more of a dramatic transformation, take the ends of the shirt and make a double knot for your evening look. Do not forget to change your footwear to a pair of high heels. For the daredevils that aren´t afraid of some colour, I would recommend red lipstick for this stunning evening look.
Before last year, I would have strongly recommended to avoid wearing bold colours together with each other as it would simply be too much for the eyes. However, witnessing so many personnel in the fashion industry wearing this combination, and thanks to Balenciaga´s Spring/Summer 2017 runway collection (see it here), I was convinced that the hot pink together with red simply looks so chic and elegant together. Soon after, I found this beautiful hot pink top deep down in my closet and thought it would be perfect for my “1 item, 3 looks” blog post.
The secret to master this “hot pink with the red colour combination”, are the followings; stick to statement colours and put some layers together to make it more dramatic. The fashion rule is to avoid prints and patterns but I am a daredevil and think my old leopard high heels looks rather chic together with this hot pink with the red colour combination look. Styling bold colours together are such a rule breaker so why not bend the rules even more with a pair of leopard high heels?
