The big V day is soon upon us…yes, I am talking about Valentine’s Day aka also known for the most romantic day of the year. I’m a big fan of celebrations and get all excited knowing a special day is approaching, however, I feel quite dubious about Valentine’s Day.I simply do not understand why you and your lover should have one specific day per year where you demonstrate your love and affection for each other – it should be like that every single day. Otherwise, what’s the point in being in a relationship?
Valentine’s Day is normally consumed by doing over-the-top romantic gestures for each other, purchasing gifts your partner has wanted since the beginning of the year (because all the Christmas gifts were not enough and we are only 2 months into the new year 🤷). What happened to surprise your partner on a random Monday just because they are awesome?
You might disagree with me and think I am being too dramatic, and I do actually like the concept of Valentine’s Day –I just believe you should celebrate your love for your spouse every single day. The same goes for showing the people around you how much they mean to you.
Perhaps Valentine’s day should be the perfect opportunity for all of us to show love to all of those amazing people in our lives, not only your romantic relationship. Why not send your sister a Valentine’s Day card to show her how much she means to you? Surprise your parents with a bouquet of their favourite flowers or why not gift your best friend something they wanted to experience for a long time? A weekend away, a beautiful piece of jewellery or maybe a facial treatment?
Valentine’s Day should be the day of love, which also includes the love for you. After all, you are the most important person in your life. I think this Valentine’s Day; you should treat yourself to something special.
