In the beginning of November, Louis Vuitton conformed Nicolas Ghesquière as the their new creative director. Representers from Vuitton said; Ghesquière would bring a modern creative vision to the house’s women’s collections, building on the values of refinement, savoir faire and extreme quality.
Ghesquière expressed a happiness and said; I am so happy. It is an excitement. A feeling that what I lived before was preparing me to do this. Louis Vuitton has always incarnated for me the symbol of ultimate luxury, innovation and exploration. I am very honoured of the mission that I am entrusted with, and proud to join the history of this great maison. We share common values and a vision.
After 16 years on the throne, Marc Jacobs, former creative designer at Louis Vuitton announced that he´s leaving the fashion house to focus on his own label that is headed towards an IPO. Read here.
WHO IS NICOLAS GHESQUIÉRE?
Ghesquière was born in Comines, Province in 1971. Already from a young age, Ghesquière expressed an interest in fashion and tailoring and started an internship at Agnès B in Paris during summers. His enthusiasm for fashion continued to grow and after school, one of his childhood dreams becomes true, he started an internship at Jean Paul Gaultier. In 1995 Ghesquière entered Balenciaga as a licensed product designer and two years later, he was accounted as Balenciaga new creative director.
Ghesquière creations became such a huge success that the label´s flagship store in Paris could not manage to meet the demands from consumers. His collections was admired worldwide, known for his exciting and couture like designs. In 2010, Ghesquière received the Fashion Group International’s Superstar and during late 2012 he decided to leave Balenciaga after 15 years on the throne. During the beginning of November 2013, Ghesquière became Louis Vuitton new creative director.
