Gift Guide: 7 UK Based Brands to Support This Christmas

Before we know it – it is the time of the year where we can watch cheesy romantic comedy movies all day long *without any judgment*. I mean, it is not really Christmas for me if I haven’t watch Bridges Jones Diary, Love Actually and Elf at least a couple of times.

I’ve always loved Christmas and the festive season; I love decorating my house with glittery and sparkly accessories, spending some quality family time and seeing the expression on their faces when they unwrap Christmas gifts.

This year has been rather abnormal to say the least, and perhaps now is a good opportunity to change the way we do our Christmas shopping. Many of our favourite local and independent businesses have been closed for the majority of the year – so perhaps we can support them by buying from them. It feels good to do good, especially this year.

I have pulled together seven gifting ideas from some of UK’s finest independent brands that might inspire you to do your Christmas shopping with them.

1 Makeup – Code8

Launched in 2018, the London-born makeup brand Code8 offers long-lasting, high-pigmented and effortless makeup for the modern women who want to create any type of makeup look without spending too much time in front of the mirror. Founded by busy career women Sophia Chikovani and Nadine Ayache, who wanted to offer universally flattering curated makeup range, regardless of age, skin colour and preference.

Code8 has been on everyone’s lips since the launch, all from world-known bloggers such as @LydiaMillen, to @brittanyxavier and @leoniehanne. With the brand ambassador, Alexa Chung, announced during the spring of 2020 – the brand has gained world recognition. For Christmas, Alexa Chung has curated three limited-edition lipstick called the “ All-Day Soirée Lipstick Trio”. Stored in a beautiful velvety jewellery box, it includes a nude matte shade “Affogato”, a creamy lipstick in pink hue “Peach Dream” and a classic matte red lipstick, named “ Pillar Box”. Also, 10% of each purchase will be donated to The Womanity Foundation and will fund 6 hours of coding classes for a girl student in Afghanistan.

2. Skincare – Kivu

Designed in London and made in Florence, the new must-have luxury skincare Kivu is developed by long-time friends dermatologist Dr Benedetta Brazzini and marketing expert Manuela Gabbai.

Kivu products offer high-end natural formula, free from parabens and perfumes, which makes them perfect for those with sensitive skin. Kivu’s unique formula is a mixture of a high percentage of Helix Aspersa secretion (which means snail), innovative peptides, Hyaluronic Acid, and natural ingredients such as Witch Hazel and Bitter Orange peel extract. This unique formula makes your skin feel healthy, more youthful and glowy.

Kivu skincare offers a curated range of four science-backed products, each targeting for a particular skincare concern and type, and aiming to maximise the regenerating, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties from the Helix Aspersa secretion. Whether you are suffering from acne-prone skin, hyperpigmentation or want to minimise the signs of ageing, Kivu skincare will have the right product for you. 5. Fashion – OMNES

Did you know that 85% of all textiles end up in a landfill? Shocking, I know! The London based fashion brand OMNES proudly calls themselves a sustainable fashion label and aim to challenge the way we shop, wear and think about our clothing. Hence the name OMNES, which means “all”.

Designed in London, OMNES is sustainable throughout, from design to fabric, production and the final product. This is one sustainable brand which I am very excited about as their designs are absolutely gorgeous and very flattering. They challenge the stereotype of “environmentally friendly clothes are boring” and truly offer a whole range of wearable fashionable clothes.

6. Jewellery – Pawn Shop

One of my many passions in life is jewellery and going to second-hand markets to find rare and beautiful jewellery. Like many of us – going to a busy market is not the most appealing thing to do during a pandemic so I was ecstatic when I found Pawn Shop. Established in 2019, the London born jewellery brand is all about elevated signature pieces made to last.

Sustainable and locally sourced, Pawn Shop offers a range of recycled vintage jewellery in 9K gold, perfect to elevate your everyday look.

7.  Accessory – Ana Lazovski

Handmade and designed in London during the lockdown by makeup artist and hat designer Ana Lazovski. Usually, Ana works on high-end and luxury commotion-based headpieces and hats for grand events such as weddings and The Royal Ascot. During the lockdown, Ana wanted to create a range of colourful, fun and bright handmade headpieces for social distancing garden parties and Zoom events. The result is an explosion of one-off pastel coloured pom-pom headbands, that are the perfect accessory for any outfit.
